Summer Skincare SPF Rules

Summer Skincare SPF Rules

It might technically still be spring, but Memorial Day weekend always means that summer is on its way. I love everything about summer—the heat, sunshine, bathing suits, drinking rosé outside with my girlfriends and even the humidity (I know that sounds crazy, but after spending 9+ hours in a freezing office building, walking outside into humidity feels like the weather is giving me a hug).

Summer Skincare Rules - Suncreen

So let's just establish some ground rules for summer skincare, for me and for you:

Find your face sunscreen BFF. I know every excuse you probably will have for not wearing a daily sunscreen: smells bad, breaks you out, gets too oily, yea yea yea. I know. But once you find one that meets all your criteria, stay with it. And reapply hourly when you're sitting on the beach or poolside. Here's a few I personally like:

Office windows + Sun = You need SPF. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can skip the sunscreen just because you sit in an office most of the day. If you sit near a window and are lucky enough to see some sunshine, you definitely need sunscreen as part of your daily routine. One of my colleagues has gone a full shade darker in foundation thanks to her daily dose of vitamin D.

If you're using spray sunscreen, make sure it actually gets on your skin. I'm a big fan of spray sunscreens, but I experienced some spotty coverage this weekend thanks to a windy beach day. The random sunburn spots on my legs and arms are really not cute.

And of course—have so, so much fun! Summer is the best and there's just something about it that makes you feel so free.
